Never played EverQuest? Start here. This is everything a brand-new adventurer needs for their first hours in Norrath, in order, with no lore homework and no three-hour videos.
EverQuest Legends is a reboot of the classic MMO, a big fantasy world you explore and fight through, solo or in groups. It runs its own story, so you're not missing decades of lore.
The one genuinely new idea: every character combines three classes into one hero, a "Trio." Their abilities stack. It's new to everyone, so day-one veterans are learning it right alongside you.
While you're learning, staying alive beats big damage numbers. A trio that can take a hit and heal itself will get you further than a glass cannon that dies to the second pull.
You choose your Primary and Secondary when you create your character, then unlock your Tertiary at level 10. Your secondary and tertiary can be swapped freely as you experiment, but your primary locks in early, so it's the one real commitment.
How the game works → How class switching works →Since the primary is your commitment, pick one that's hard to die on while you learn the ropes. Paladin is the classic safe choice, heavy plate armor plus its own small heals means you can make mistakes and live. It's boring in the best possible way.
Prefer casting to swinging a sword? A Magician primary is the other beginner-friendly pick, see step 4.
Best class combos ranked → Class reference →The most forgiving all-rounder: PaladinClericWizard, plate armor to tank hits, a Cleric's strong healing to stay topped up, and a Wizard for ranged damage and teleports. Hard to die, always has an answer.

Whatever you play, get a teleport class (Druid or Wizard) into your trio at some point, map-wide travel saves you an astonishing amount of time.
⚡ Open the pet build in the Forge Related guide → Leveling RoadmapAny solo trio should be able to do three things: survive (a tank or mitigation), heal (sustain), and deal damage. If you're missing one, you'll feel it. The Build Forge scores your combo on exactly these and tells you what's missing, use it as a gut-check before you commit.
Score any trio in the Forge → See combos ranked S/A/B →Invest in your gear and Alternate Advancement steadily rather than hoarding. Actually use your stances and invocations instead of spamming basic attacks. In tough fights, lead with slows and crowd control (Shaman, Enchanter) to blunt damage before it lands. And don't overpull, one fight at a time while you learn a zone.
Motes & upgrades → AA: what to buy first → Stances & invocations → Gear by class →Your race is more than a look. Some carry real advantages, like Ogre immunity to frontal stuns, or the casting and regeneration perks other races bring. If you already have a class in mind, pick a race that supports it, and know you can change your race later if you want to.
Races & racial benefits →EverQuest Legends lets you set how hard the world hits, from D0 up to D4. While you are learning, run it low so mobs are gentler and you keep your footing. Push the difficulty later for more experience and better loot once your Trio can handle it.
The D0 to D4 difficulty guide →⚠️ Going all-in on damage. A trio with no healer or mitigation melts. Balance first, optimize later.
⚠️ Rushing the primary pick. It locks early, choose a class whose core feel you enjoy, not just the current meta.
⚠️ Hoarding gear and currency. Steady upgrades keep you alive; a full bank doesn't.
⚠️ Chasing "the one best build." There isn't one, the strongest combo shifts with content and playstyle. Pick what's fun and covers the three jobs.
Once you are moving, each of these digs into one system in full.
