Plane of Sky

EverQuest LegendsLevel 46+9 islands

The Plane of Sky is Norrath's floating gauntlet: a stack of islands you climb one boss at a time for some of the best gear in the Kunark era and several class epics. It is long and gear-checked, but it is not a group wall. Sky runs on your own instance, so a capable trio with the right gear and AAs clears it solo.

How to Get to Plane of Sky in EverQuest Legends

There are two ways up. Click the orb in the bay at East Freeport (around -425, -1200), or cast the Wizard spell Alter Plane: Sky, which needs one Cloudy Stone of Veeshan per cast. You need to be level 46 or higher; the residents are level 50 and up.

Everything strips on entry. All of your buffs and debuffs fall off the moment you arrive, so land on Island 1, where the fairies are non-hostile, and rebuff there before you touch anything.

Soloing Sky: the instance and difficulty

Like the rest of EQL's endgame, Sky is scaled through the Voidling instance system, so you set the difficulty. Solo D0 is the floor: the final boss, the Eye of Veeshan, sits at 32,000 HP at D0 and climbs from there. Start at D0 to learn the islands, then raise the difficulty for better drops once your trio can hold the pace.

The islands and the key system

Sky is a straight climb. Each island's boss drops the key to the next island, and the good news on Legends is that once a key has ported you somewhere, it is added to your keyring permanently, so you never farm that key again on later runs. The catch: if you fall off an island or die, you drop into the East Freeport bay and any keys you have not yet used are destroyed. Use each key as you earn it to bank the progress.

The keys, and where they drop

Island by island

The Efreeti cycle

Two bonus encounters chain off the early islands. Kill Noble Dojorn on Island 1.5 to spawn the Overseer of Air on Island 4, then kill the Overseer to spawn the Hand of Veeshan on Island 8. Fold these into your run when you want the extra loot.

Chasing a knight weapon? The Torrid Corruptor quest also sends Paladins and Shadow Knights to the Island 4 windmill to spawn Inte Akera, so a Sky run pairs well with that grind.

Loot worth the climb

Sky's drops are excellent for the era. The headline pieces are the 21% haste belt (reachable fast for melee) and the endgame 41% haste belt, plus standouts like the Vermilion Sky Ring (Shaman), the Duennan Shielding Ring (Magician), and the Necklace of Resolution (Cleric). If you play a Magician, Monk, Ranger, or Paladin, your epic runs through here, so Sky is not optional for those classes.

Class Tests, and unlocking a primary

Sky is also where you unlock a primary class. Finishing a class's full Test line here is the quest route to maining that class, the alternative to spending a Primary Class Unlock Token (you get one free the first time you hit level 50). So if you want to main a class you did not roll, its Sky Tests are the free path.

The Tests run out of the Quest Room. Grab the free quest-room key from the Key Master on Island 1, which opens the pad down to the Quest Room, and each class turns in to its own NPC inside. Track progress with /ach under the Unlocked Potential tab.

Every Test wants one wind rune (they drop from any Sky mob, in types like Meda, Kala, Azia, Caza, and Beza) plus one island quest item from a boss or named trash. The Bard, for example, works through Cilin Spellsinger: Ervaj's Flute of Flight needs a Crude Wooden Flute from the Spiroc Lord on Island 5 plus Wind Rune Azia. Every class follows the same shape, so save every wind rune you see.
