Straight talk: this one is a real pain. It is one of the longest, most faction-heavy grinds in the game. Like everything in EQ Legends it is soloable, largely thanks to personal instances, but that does not make it quick. Before you even start you need a finished SoulFire and a Dark Reaver (the quest eats both), a stack of bone chips ground out for faction, and the patience to chase rare spawns and turn-ins across Splitpaw, South Karana, Paineel, the Plane of Sky, and East Freeport for three Burning Souls. The reward is a top-tier knight 2H, but go in expecting days of prep, several tough fights, and plenty of travel. Line up your faction first, keep every quest item banked, and confirm each intermediate loot in-game.

Torrid Corruptor (Primary (2H Slashing))
33 dmg / 44 dly · STR +15 · INT +5 · WIS +5 · DEX +5 · CHA -30 · HP +25 · Mana +25 · all resists +5 · Oathbreaker's Curse combat proc · Right-click while equipped grants a quest title · Paladin and Shadow Knight only · Magic, Lore, No Drop
Part 1: Preparation (do this before you start)
- Be level 46+. Like the rest of EQ Legends this is soloable, largely on the back of personal instances, so you do not need a group; just expect some tough fights.
- Get a completed SoulFire (see the Soulfire guide) and a Dark Reaver. The quest consumes both.
- Dark Reaver drops from a Ghoul Cavalier in Lower Guk (LGUK), so plan a camp there.
- Farm 1000+ Bone Chips: several faction turn-ins in this chain and in the SoulFire step burn through them (Dismal Rage via Xelha under the Roost, and Priests of Life via Lashun Novashine). The Paineel newbie yard is the best farm; start an instance and pull the skeletons.
- Skill up Baking to 21+ and Brewing to 70+ for the food and drink components along the way.
- Useful extras that make the chain far smoother: unlock an Agnostic deity so you can raise all the opposed factions, pick up a Guise of the Deceiver (Dark Elf illusion) for evil-city access and faction, level a Druid or Wizard to 25 for ports between the far-flung zones, and have Feign Death and Sneak ready for moving through Lower Guk and Paineel safely.
Part 2: Burning Soul of the Pious (Splitpaw Lair)
- Once you have a finished SoulFire, go back to Brother Hayle in Splitpaw Lair.
- Kill Brother Hayle, loot the soul drop, and click it to make the Burning Soul of the Pious.
- You will collect three Burning Souls in all (Pious, Pestilent, Virtuous). The mid-quest turn-ins charge each soul and hand it back, so hold onto every one; all three plus a SoulFire go in at the very end.
Part 3: Faction grind (Bloodsabers and Heretics)
- Bloodsabers: you must be kindly with Lord Grimrot's faction before his turn-in, so raise Bloodsabers first or Grimrot will not deal with you.
- Heretics: travel Toxxulia Forest to Paineel to the Warrens and kill kobolds for roughly 15 to 30 minutes until you are warmly with the Heretics.
Part 4: Lord Grimrot (South Karana)
- Go back to South Karana and find the Grimrot camp.
- Wait for the living Lord Grimrot; zone out and back or use personal instances until his living version is up.
- Present the Burning Soul of the Pious and the Dark Reaver to the living Lord Grimrot, then kill him. This is where the Dark Reaver is consumed and where the Pestilent soul and the charged Pestilence Scythe come from.
Part 5: Jotayi in Paineel
- Get into Paineel: once you are warmly with the Heretics, hail the Skeleton Guards and say 'I need a key' to receive your key.
- Go to the Paineel Necromancer Guild and find Jotayi.
- Present the Burning Soul of the Pestilent and the charged Pestilence Scythe to Jotayi.
Part 6: Inte Akera (Plane of Sky)
- At the East Freeport dock, click up to the Plane of Sky and make a solo instance.
- Clear up to the Island 4 windmill.
- Reset trick: jump off Sky, click up again, and re-enter a fresh solo Sky so the windmill encounter is ready.
- Give 500 platinum to Dason Goldblade at the Island 4 windmill to spawn Inte Akera.
- Kill Inte Akera and loot the Burning Soul of the Virtuous.
Part 7: Final turn-in (East Freeport underground)
- Go underground beneath Seafarer's Roost in East Freeport.
- Find Xelha and give bone chips until you are kindly with Dismal Rage.
- Find Luxio Nulsis nearby.
- Give the three Burning Souls (Pious, Pestilent, Virtuous) plus a SoulFire to Luxio Nulsis to receive the Torrid Corruptor.
