The in-game map for this zone. North is up.
Kaladim is the underground dwarven metropolis of the Faydwer dwarves, carved deep into the Butcherblock Mountains and split into North and South halves connected by long tunnels. It is a full city hub with forges, guild halls, banks and merchants rather than a hunting dungeon, so most leveling happens in the newbie yard just outside the gates in Butcherblock. The interior is patrolled by tough guards, making it one of the safest cities for its resident dwarves.
Both North Kaladim and South Kaladim zone out into the Butcherblock Mountains, which in turn links to the docks bound for Freeport, east to Greater Faydark, and south toward Dagnor's Cauldron. There is no direct connection to any zone other than Butcherblock.
The interior guards are far too high level for newcomers, so wandering deep into the city without dwarven faction can be fatal. Outside in the Butcherblock newbie yard the roaming named Corflunk and orc runners patrol the road between Greater Faydark and Dagnor's Cauldron and can surprise low-level players.
Use the guard outposts and open sight lines of the newbie yard to retreat to safety, since Kaladim and its approaches are among the safest starting areas. Collect bone chips from dwarf skeletons for cleric and shaman quests, and bank and train inside the city between hunts.
