The in-game map for this zone. North is up.
Lake Rathetear is a broad mountain lake dotted with islands, towers, and shoreline camps, serving as a transit hub between the Karanas, the Rathe Mountains, and The Arena. Rather than one open field, it is a patchwork of isolated pockets separated by water, so multiple groups can hunt distinct camps at once. Its varied population of goblins, gnolls, aviaks, and undead gives it a wide effective level spread.
The lake connects to South Karana (the Southern Plains) to the north, the Rathe Mountains to the south, and The Arena through a tunnel in the northwest near the aviak areas.
The southern entrance from South Karana is a notorious gauntlet where gnolls and undead can pop all at once on top of arrivals. Much of the zone forces swimming through water patrolled by sharks and deepwater goblins, and out-of-level roaming casters like Kazen Fecae can kill quickly.
Cross the southern entrance fast and, if possible, invisibly, and use the walls and high ground to avoid unnecessary swimming. Pick an isolated camp suited to your level and hold it, since the pockets keep pulls manageable. Watch the day/night cycle, as gnolls rule the day and undead rise at night near the entrance.
