The in-game map for this zone. North is up.
The Southern Plains of Karana are a sprawling grassland stretching from the Qeynos-guarded northern bridge down to the mountains, home to the aviak village, the Sabretooth gnoll camps, and the entrance to the Splitpaw Lair dungeon. It offers a wide level spread and is famous as the roaming ground of Quillmane, one of EverQuest's most competitive rare spawns.
The north end crosses a Qeynos-guarded bridge into North Karana, a southern pass leads toward Lake Rathetear and the Rathe Mountains, and stone spires near the zone center mark the entrance down into the Splitpaw Lair gnoll dungeon.
Cracktusk's long senses and superior run speed make him nearly impossible to escape without a snare or speed buff, shadowed men lurk along the western walls and hit hard, and cyclops and undead cyclops in the south can overwhelm players who wander in underleveled.
Camping Quillmane requires patience and grabbing aggro first since most spawns are placeholders, the aviaks are generally non-aggressive unless you are a troll or ogre, and grouping is often needed at the busy gnoll and centaur camps.
