EverQuest Legends' first new playable race: the Ayr'Haeth, the Half Dark Elves who have been living under Nektropos Castle for longer than the lord above them knows. They also introduce a brand-new system, race levels. What they do, who should play one, and how to unlock them. Written for trio play.
The Ayr'Haeth, also called Half Dark Elves, have made a quiet home in the Nektropos Undercroft, the hidden warren beneath the Everling estate. They have been down there a long time, unnoticed by the household above, which is exactly the kind of people they are: watchful, hidden, and comfortable in the dark. With the castle now tearing itself apart overhead, they are stepping into the light for the first time as a race you can play.
The Ayr'Haeth arrive with a new concept: race levels, separate from class levels. Every existing race in EverQuest Legends sits at level 50, but any new race added to the game, the Ayr'Haeth first among them, starts at level 1 and levels its race up alongside your classes. It is the first time the game has split race progression out on its own, so rolling an Ayr'Haeth is starting something genuinely new rather than swapping a coat of paint onto a capped character.
Cursed Heritage is the headline, and it points the Ayr'Haeth at a clear kind of trio. A 10% boost to taps and runes rewards any build leaning on lifetaps or rune shields, so a Shadow Knight or Necromancer core, or a rune-stacking caster, gets the most out of the race. The regen penalty is real but narrow: it only bites outdoors in daylight, and a trio with its own healing barely notices it, especially inside the dungeons where you spend your fights.
The utility half, Hide, Sneak, Infravision, and Life Tracking, suits a puller or a scout, letting you read a room and set up a pull before anything reads you. None of it changes which three classes you can fuse, so the Ayr'Haeth is a flavor-and-edge pick on top of whatever trio you want to build.
The Ayr'Haeth are not open by default. You unlock them by completing a new quest that starts in Lake Nerius, the same overgrown approach that gates Nektropos Castle. Fittingly, their home in the Undercroft sits at the bottom of the castle itself, reached through the secret passage below the basement, so the race and the dungeon are two ends of the same story.
Build a tap or rune-leaning three-class combo in the Forge, save it, and see how it scores and how it compares to what other players run in the build database. See the full races guide for how race choice fits the rest of your build.
